*Commonly Confused*

Today we talked very briefly about some of the common mistakes we make when we write. English is full of all kinds of traps and pitfalls for the writer to fall into.

This test lets you test your ability to recognize and avoid some of the more common mistakes. It is an LJ meme so it only takes a few minutes.

Of course, it's not required, but it is kind of fun. If you're feeling brave you can report back with your results. If you're not feeling quite as brave, feel free to share your reaction to your score.

Also, I posted a PDF of the writing process document that we talked about in class.

I scored 100% Beginner, 92% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 66% Expert. I actually expected a higher score in Expert but I was too lazy to check the answer key :p

Advanced
You scored 92% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 86% Advanced, and 66% Expert!
You have an extremely good understanding of beginner, intermediate, and advanced level commonly confused English words, getting at least 75% of each of these three levels' questions correct. This is an exceptional score. Remember, these are commonly confused English words, which means most people don't use them properly. You got an extremely respectable score.

Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

I scored 78% Beginner, 85% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 66% Expert! Hmm. These are the type of scores I expected for myself. I wonder how we all got 66% for expert. I actually learned stuff going over the answer key. ^^

I scored 100%, 100%, 80% and 93%. It was funny because I couldn't think of what the other type of stationary/stationery was.

I scored higher than I expected. I didn't recognize some of the words used in the test. Here is my result: 92% Beginner, 85% Intermediate, 80% Advanced, and 66% Expert!

I scored higher than I expected. I read some of the explainations and I have to say I didn't know much of the grammatical jargon they use. I have a lot of friends that are ESL and am always amazed when they know more about the English language, on the technical level, than I do. I'm sure it is frustrating when they ask me English questions and I simply reply, "I don't know, it just sounds right." I'm so glad English is my first language!

You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

funnily enough, I hardly know anything about the technical grammar in English and all its confusing terms. I just chose what I thought looked and sounded correct.
